the simatic s7-1200 system has five different modules: cpu 1211c, cpu 1212c, cpu 1214c, cpu1215c and cpu1217c. each of these modules can be extended to fully meet the needs of your system. a signal board can be added in front of any cpu to easily extend digital or analog i/o without affecting the actual size of the controller. the signal module can be connected to the right side of the cpu to further expand the digital or analog i/o capacity. cpu 1212c can connect two signal modules, and cpu 1214c, cpu1215c and cpu1217c can connect eight signal modules. finally, the left side of all the simatic s7-1200 cpu controllers can be connected to up to three communication modules for end-to-end serial communication.
